West Ham United have seen a bid for Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd rejected by the French club.
That’s according to journalist Ignazio Genuardi, who says €20m was not enough to convince the Ligue 1 side into a sale.
According to Genuardi’s information, while West Ham are in ‘very advanced contact’ with Fiorentina over a move for Nikola Milenkovic, they are also looking at other central defenders.
The man at the top of their list is Aguerd, and they have ‘gone as high as €20m’ in an attempt to bring the defender to the London Stadium.
That was rejected by the Bretons, though, who ‘refuse to let go’ of the 25-year-old, who arrived in a £3.6m deal from Dijon last summer.
Whether West Ham will return with an increased bid isn’t mentioned, but it seems even if they do, they will have intense negotiations on their hands as Rennes simply aren’t interested in letting their man go.
We’ll have to wait and see, but we could end up with more of these stories on our hands, especially if the potential move for Milenkovic continues to stall.
