As West Ham continue looking for a defensive midfielder, it’s time to have another player from the Portuguese league linked to the club.
This time, it’s Ljubomir Fejsa from Benfica.
As reported by Correio da Manhã today, West Ham have been following the Serbian international and have him in their plans. The only doubts about the signing would be his constant injury problems.
Funny thing is that earlier this month, Fejsa was also pointed out as an alternative for Tottenham Hotspur in case they failed to sign another Sporting player, this time Adrien Silva.
The report was made by Record at the time, and a few days later, the same newspaper claimed that Fejsa is actually negotiating a new contract with Benfica, and should get a deal soon.
Claiming interest from other clubs while negotiating a new contract is not something new, so we’d be a bit careful before believing this story.
The midfielder is a regular starter for the Eagles, and that’s enough for us to believe that he wouldn’t leave for much less than his release clause, which is of €35m.
But considering how much West Ham are offering for William, they could even save money by paying Fejsa’s clause. The recent reports said Sporting are demanding €38m plus bonuses for Carvalho, so that’s a decent difference.
Fejsa is known as one of the most successful footballers on the planet. The 29 year old won three titles with Partizan, before moving to Olympaicos and winning another three, he’s currently on his fourth title in a row with Benfica, and, with the three clubs, has also picked up medals for winning 9 cups.
West Ham probably wouldn’t enable him to keep that record up.
