Tottenham Hotspur didn’t use to be one of the most active English clubs in the Portuguese market, or rumour mill, but things have been a little different this summer.
Spurs have been heavily linked to Ricardo Pereira from Porto and Adrien Silva from Sporting, and now it’s time to have a Benfica player on their list.
As reported by Record today, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are interested in Eagles midfielder Ljubomir Fejsa.
According to the newspaper, the 28-year-old would be an option for Tottenham after seeing their €20m bid for Adrien Silva was turned down.
But Record makes it clear that signing Fejsa wouldn’t be easier, because the player is considered to be very important to Benfica’s squad.
They don’t mention how much the Lisbon club demand for the player, but knowing the Portuguese market as we do, Benfica will very probably push for his €35m release clause.
The Greek international may suffer with a few injuries sometimes, but when fit, he’s been an essential element in the Benfica midfield which won the last four league titles.
Adrien Silva to Tottenham rumours have been hard to believe, so to then further accept that Pochettino has moved on to another target, who coincidentally also happens to be in Lisbon, is difficult.
