Earlier this month, West Brom were said to be pretty close to signing André Horta from Benfica. Reports from Portugal said the player was keen on joining the Baggies on a one year deal.
Horta is seen at the Lisbon club as a player with much potential, but hasn’t been having enough game time due to the many midfield options in the squad.
By the time the rumours were out, it was said that Benfica would prefer to keep him in Portugal, since he’d surely get starts and it would also be easier to follow him. But the player would be attracted by the West Brom offer, especially because of the financial advantages.
But now it seems the club’s desire prevailed, because as reported by Diário de Notícias today, Horta is ‘hours from being announced’ as the new signing of Braga.
He’s set to play alongside his brother Ricardo Horta, and will spend one year on loan at the club which is considered to be Portugal’s fourth strongest side.
It seems West Brom were just unlucky this time.
