There isn’t one week when the Portuguese media doesn’t have an article linking William Carvalho to English clubs, as the player continues to flirt with a move out of Sporting CP.
On Monday, for example, newspaper A Bola said Juventus and Manchester City were leading the race for the midfielder, a story which we are not buying.
And when The Telegraph put out an article saying West Brom manager Tony Pulis had monitored Carvalho last weekend, it would obviously make it to the Portuguese newspapers.
Besides covering this report today, O Jogo adds many other clubs who would be competing with West Brom for the signing.
They say that Southampton, Everton, Leicester, Liverpool and Arsenal have also been following the player ‘with attention’.
It’s safe to say that all of these clubs mentioned have been linked to Carvalho at some point, but none of them have had talks or bids reported in the past few months.
So once again, it only sounds like the Portuguese press wants to make the competition look much bigger than it actually is.
Given West Brom’s bid in the last summer window, it’s pretty likely they remain interested in Carvalho for the next transfer market.
