Callum Hudson-Odoi was back on Bayern Munich’s radar in the summer transfer window and as it happened in January 2019, the Bundesliga winners failed again to sign the Chelsea winger.
Earlier reports coming out of Germany explained Hasan Salihamidžić, the treble winners’ sporting director held talks with Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia.
The Blues chief was willing to allow the 19-year-old to join the Bavarian club if the latter had met her conditions for transfer. This included a ‘purchase obligation of €77m’ if he had made a certain number of appearances.
SportBild interviewed Salihamidžić and even though the Bayern sporting director didn’t reveal in detail, he suggested it was best for his side to walk away from the deal.
When discussing about Hudson-Odoi, he said: “There are transfers that get to the point where you have to say we’re out now. This makes it all the more important to think about alternatives or alternative ways from the outset.”
Bild have also covered some of his quotes and with regards to the England international, Salihamidžić said: “We negotiated with Chelsea but there was no agreement. That’s what happened”
The Bayern transfer chief’s comments give an indication Granovskaia and Chelsea made it difficult for the Bundesliga winners to sign Hudson-Odoi in the last window.
