Ilia Gruev spoke back in February about what a big club he’d found Leeds United to be since his move to Yorkshire from Werder Bremen.

He said the size of the club had been a surprise and was something which had become apparent to him after making the move. Gruev also spoke about his big ambition for promotion to the Premier League this season.

That’s worked out rather well for him, and he’ll now get to play in what he believes is the best league in the football world.

Gruev has now been speaking again, after helping Leeds United secure that promotion to the Premier League.

Ostthüringer Zeitung quote the 24-year-old as saying: “For me, it’s the best league in the world – I moved here to play there. I’m already really looking forward to the duels against Liverpool, Arsenal, and the like.”

As he’d already stated earlier this year, it’s not just securing promotion which has been the aim this season for Gruev, he wants to win the Championship title as well.

Despite recently promoted teams struggling with the step up to England’s top flight, and often returning to the Championship immediately, Gruev thinks it will be different for his side: “With all the power that Leeds United has, we’re certainly not your average promoted team. We naturally want to establish ourselves in the Premier League.”
