Needing some more creativity in midfield, Mikel Arteta decided that Martin Ødegaard was the man for the job at the Emirates.

Bringing in the Norway international on loan from Real Madrid, the Spaniard secured what most saw as a coup, with the transfer being well received.

There was no purchase clause in the deal, however, meaning the playmaker is currently set to return to the Santiago Bernabeu come the end of the season unless a new agreement, whether it be a loan renewal or a definitive transfer, is struck between all parties.

Ødegaard has performed rather well since his arrival at Arsenal, and while he hasn’t set the league alight, he has shown he could have a future in London and the Premier League.

Whether he does, though, will be entirely up to Real Madrid, as the man himself explained in a quick chat with Sky Germany on Tuesday, relayed by one of their journalists, Max Bielefeld, on Twitter.

The Arsenal loanee said: “I am happy here at Arsenal, but we will see after the season what will happen. At the moment, I don’t know. I’m owned by Real Madrid, so we have to speak to them. It’s important to know what they want”.

A lot could depend on whether Zinedine Zidane stays at the La Liga giants, as it was his reluctance to use Ødegaard that led to the loan in the first place.

Either way, this will be a boost for the Gunners, as they at least know he’s happy and is ready to tell the world as much.

What happens beyond that, however, is in Real Madrid’s hands.
