Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani has been regularly linked with a move to Barcelona in recent weeks.
On December 14th, Sport reported the 34-year-old is the ‘chosen one’ by the La Liga side to bolster their attack, and they have already held talks with him.
The striker’s game time has been limited this season due to injuries and him falling behind summer arrival Cristiano Ronaldo in the pecking order.
Xavi Hernández will be looking for the Catalan club to bolster the attacking division in January. Sport on Thursday claim ‘one of the names that Barca are negotiating’ is Cavani, to replace recently retired Sergio Agüero.
It’s explained the Camp Nou side have already held talks with the Uruguay international’s representatives.
The newspaper adds his arrival to Barca depends on ‘being allowed to leave with the freedom letter’, meaning Manchester United terminating his contract so that he can join the Spanish club on a free transfer. His current deal expires next June.
Cavani, for now, is ‘waiting for Manchester United’ to decide on his future in the ‘coming days’.
With Anthony Martial asking to leave the Red Devils in the winter market, it may not make sense for United to let Cavani leave for free in the same window.
