Newcastle United looked at Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri in the winter market but were not able to acquire his signature.
The Brazilian has kept 12 clean sheets and conceded 40 goals from 35 games this season.
O Tempo cover Newcastle’s interest in the stopper and the efforts they have put in to try and sign him.
The Magpies have made contact, without making it clear where it’s with Lyon, the 27-year-old’s camp or both, and ‘could move forward’ with the operation in the summer window. Lyon owner John Textor would have a big say in this.
Having failed to sign him in the January window, Newcastle can make a fresh attempt. O Tempo also cover a claim from Canal do Nicola, stating that the Premier League club could ‘resume negotiations’ in June for a price of around €20-30m.
The Ligue 1 club signed Perri from Botafogo for €3.25m in January 2024. The Brazilian club have a 50% sell-on clause, meaning they will be in line to make a huge profit with the stopper’s sale.
Fogão NET cover claims made elsewhere about Botafogo’s sell-on clause and then state Newcastle have ‘already expressed interest’ in Perri.
Last month, the stopper stated he’s proud to represent his club and is hopeful of staying at Lyon.
