Virgil van Dijk has revealed he is “constantly shouting” at Liverpool teammate Ryan Gravenberch, praising the midfielder for the development he’s undergone this season.
Voetbal Primeur cover comments from the Liverpool captain today made to Viaplay, in which he was keen to praise his fellow Dutchman.
Gravenberch has undoubtedly been the revelation of Liverpool’s season so far, transforming into the perfect number six for Arne Slot’s side.
He’s very much bounced back from a difficult first year at Anfield following his arrival from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023.
He struggled to establish himself in Jurgen Klopp’s plans but the failure to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in the summer transfer window opened the doo for him.
He has taken the opportunity with both hands, establishing himself as a key player under Slot with a series of impressive performances as Liverpool have been the in-form side in Europe, topping the Premier League and the Champions League.
His performances have earned him plenty of praise in the last few months and Van Dijk wants to join in on that, even if he admits he’s constantly shouting at the 22-year-old.
“Gravenberch is really in the form of his life. He plays with one hundred percent self-confidence, and he is developing himself enormously, especially defensively,” he said.
“Of course I am constantly shouting at him, but I have the feeling that he appreciates it. “He’s going great now and he’s doing great. He just has to stay calm, make sure he doesn’t get injured and keep going.”
