In the transfer window, when players are interviewed about their future, any smile, any wink is obviously analysed, and sometimes it doesn’t mean much.
Take Monday for example, Manchester United fans started looking in detail at a José Mourinho interview after he was asked about a possible deal for Victor Lindelöf, and the Special One couldn’t help but smile after giving his answer.
Another man guilty of seemingly being unable to hide his feelings is Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, who, during an interview when on international duty with the Belgium squad, published by DH, was asked if he was interested in returning to Chelsea.
His answer? A wink and a smile, followed by ‘no comment’ and him seemingly shying away from the question, laughing.
Now, we’re no body experts, and he could very well be leading everyone on, but it’s important to remember that Lukaku is after all a Chelsea fan, and, with them having won the Premier League and playing in the Champions League next season, returning there would be his ideal destination.
He wants to break the 100 Premier League goal tally, and what better place to do it at the club you’ve always dreamt of playing regularly for?
The player then went on to say ‘he knew where he wanted to go’ and that his ‘agent was sorting everything out’.
As for staying at Everton? ‘I don’t think so, no’.
