The Maxi Gomez claims are coming fast from Spain on Friday, and that’s because his transfer to Valencia has turned into a full soap opera.

Celta Vigo this week reached an agreement to sell their striker to Los Ches. It would have seen them receive €14.5m, a million or so in bonuses payment, Santi Mina, and another player on a two year loan.

That could still happen, but West Ham are trying their best to snatch Gomez away.

A little earlier we covered claims from Celta’s local media that West Ham representatives had arrived in Vigo via private jet this morning. However, Celta have an agreement with Valencia and the Hammers have been told they need to deposit Gomez’s €50m clause to break that.

There was also the suggestion the Hammers are being encouraged so Valencia have to part with more money.

Super Deporte, who say the transfer is ‘up in the air’, back that line of thinking up, and claim: ‘Apparently, Jonathan Barnett demands the same commission that he would charge if the operation is done with West Ham.’

We’ve contacted Stellar Group, who simply made it clear a player can’t be stopped from joining the club he wants to.

Super Deporte explain this could all kill the deal, and Valencia move on to other targets if things become too complicated.
