Following the announcement of Tottenham signing Lucas Bergvall from Djurgården, the Swedish media continue to discuss what could become the biggest transfer of all time from the Allsvenskan.

That will only be the case if some of the bonuses in the transfer are triggered, but regardless of whether they are or not, the fact Spurs decided to spend over €10m on an 18-year-old is a big deal for Swedish football.

Aftonbladet spoke to Djurgården’s sporting director Bosse Andersson about the youngster’s transfer to Tottenham, which will officially take place in the summer.

For now, the midfielder will stay with his current club, continuing to play first-team football until he has to move to London, since the deal was completed after deadline day, allowing the 18-year-old to sign a five-year contract.

For the sporting director, these have been very stressful and intense weeks.

Andersson said: “It has been unprecedented. It’s clear that it affects Lucas, it affects Djurgården and it affects me too. There has to be responsibility somewhere. We know what we have done and who we have been in contact with.

“When different amounts are mentioned and so on, many messages were received about how incompetent we are in that area and it’s clear that it takes time, but I am extremely proud of this deal. We get a very good transfer fee and he gets to choose where he wants to go.”

Andersson felt it was ‘completely unlikely’ that someone so young from Sweden could be signing a five-year deal with a Premier League club like Tottenham, but those are the realities of modern football, with more and more players making the big leap earlier in their career.
