Chelsea failed in their efforts to sign Jules Koundé after they couldn’t find an agreement with Sevilla for the transfer in the summer.

The Blues have now shifted their focus Matthijs de Ligt, according to Il Bianconero.

Thomas Tuchel’s side and the Old Lady are pitted in the same group in the Champions League and the two matches between the pair will allow the west London club to watch the defender ‘more closely’.

The Serie A side have maintained a firm position with regards to the 22-year-old as they want to retain him for the present and the future.

Il Bianconero’s claims are also backed up by Calciomercato.it, who then provide more details regarding the centre-back.

The west London club already signed Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan and the website states they have a ‘Serie A obsession’.

Having failed to land Koundé, the European champions are ‘seriously thinking’ of signing the Netherlands international. He’s valued at €70m by the Turin club.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich would be willing to put on the table a fee of €18m plus Timo Werner, who is valued at €40m.

As per Calciomercato.it, this option doesn’t please Juventus since they don’t want to give up De Ligt for money and a forward, who hasn’t done well at Stamford Bridge.
