Maurizio Sarri and Chelsea are said to be targeting two Serie A players as there’s doubt over three in the current Chelsea squad, reports Tuttosport.
It’s claimed that whilst Chelsea want David Luiz to sign a new contract, the possibility of an exit is being prepared for anyway, and that adds to uncertainty around Gary Cahill and Olivier Giroud.
The defensive target named is no surprise. Daniele Rugani has been linked with Chelsea for some time and those links only increased when Sarri began being suggested for the Stamford Bridge job.
Rugani and the manager worked well together at Empoli, when the defender was on loan from Juventus. At various points throughout the summer a transfer to Chelsea was deemed to be close, according to numerous Italian claims, but didn’t come off.
Then it was thought Rugani would be handed a new contract, but that hasn’t happened yet.
In the attacking areas, the target is said to be Krzysztof Piatek, with the 23 year old Polish striker having a sensational start to the season with Genoa.
Twelve goals in seven games has caught the eye of many, and Tuttosport say that includes Chelsea.
