The president of Bucaspor Cihan Aktaş has told the Turkish media Arsenal were one of the clubs that were looking to sign winger Oğuz Aydın.
This week the 23-year-old attacker signed for Fenerbahce from Bucaspor as Jose Mourinho looks to add to his squad.
Speaking to Hurriyet, Aktaş revealed Arsenal’s interest in signing the youngster, along with clubs from Italy. However, he went on to say once Fenerbahce showed their intention to bring in Aydın they got a deal done, despite competition from Fener’s local rivals Galatasaray.
“Oğuz is a player who takes the stage at unexpected moments and wins matches. Two Italian clubs and Arsenal were after him. Galatasaray also wanted him, but when Ali Koç stepped in, he became a Fenerbahce player,” said the Bucaspor president.
The left back was one of Turkey’s star players in Germany, helping his country to the quarter finals of the competition. Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester United have also been linked with the 24-year-old in recent weeks after reports they too were monitoring him at the tournament.
