Five years later, it seems that Everton have still not forgotten about the Dutch striker Bas Dost. The Toffees have been linked to the player since 2012, when he was still impressing for Heerenveen and ended up signing for Dutch side Wolfsburg.
Now the 34 goals scored by him in his first season in Portugal have impressed Everton once again, according to local newspaper Correio da Manhã.
They say Everton have been watching the player, and would be interested in bringing him to the club as a perfect replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who should be leaving in the summer.
The problem is that Bas Dost now has a €60m release clause, and that’s what Sporting will be demanding if Everton or anyone else approach them for the 27 year old.
Everton wouldn’t pay such a fee, but if Ronald Koeman thought Dost could transport his goalscoring to a fourth country, then something north of €30m would be needed.
