At least as far as the latest rumour cycle is concerned, Crystal Palace were the first Premier League club to be linked with a move for Botafogo’s Luiz Henrique.

Given Fiorentina have also been trying to sign the winger, and that John Textor has shares in both Botafogo and Crystal Palace, it wouldn’t have shocked anyone had the Eagles been thrown in to press La Viola into paying more.

Then Nottingham Forest were said to be ready to fight Crystal Palace to sign Luiz Henrique, and then Newcastle United were presented as a fresh threat to their fellow English clubs. Russia’s Zenit have also been thrown into the picture.

Sunday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport reports Fiorentina have now got a rush on to secure Luiz Henrique for themselves.

According to the newspaper, after hours of ‘waiting, reflection, strategy’, Fiorentina are’t ready to give up on the Brazilian just yet.

Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and Zenit are all named as the competition. Intriguingly, so are Lyon, who are having serious financial issues right now and would struggle for a deal.

However, they’re also owned by John Textor, which is perhaps another indication that interest in Luiz Henrique is being exaggerated by someone involved.

Fiorentina hope the player’s desire swings their way and he rejects other clubs.
