Portuguese side Benfica seem to be still up for negotiating the sale of Andreas Samaris with anyone who shows up wanting to sign the player, which will be good news for David Moyes and Sunderland.
As reported earlier this week, Sunderland failed to reach an agreement for the midfielder during the January transfer window. First asking for a loan and then bidding too low, the Black Cats weren’t capable of convincing the Lisbon club.
Now Portuguese newspaper Record say the player will still be available in the summer. Samaris still has a ‘great market’, so Benfica see him as a good opportunity to make money.
Giving he’s started only 9 games this season, selling him while he’s still wanted would mean good business. That’s why during the negotiations with Sunderland, the Portuguese press claimed Benfica wanted at least €20m.
The Eagles are now thinking of offering Samaris a new contract, but keeping the €45m release clause, which gives them a good margin to negotiate. The player, likely disappointed by the failure of his Sunderland transfer, will be buoyed by the new deal, and everything can remain positive.
Should Sunderland return in the summer then their approach will be welcomed. First, David Moyes has to make sure he keeps his team in the Premier League.
