Matthijs de Ligt moving to Tottenham to replace Toby Alderweireld ticks so many boxes and joins so many dots that’s it’s a fitting transfer rumour.
Basically, even if there wasn’t a shred of truth in any interest it would be reported anyway.
With Spurs clearly having a taste for defenders who have come off the Ajax conveyor belt (Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Sanchez) and De Ligt being the next big thing, it’s obvious the club will at least be having a look.
Tottenham have been linked in the Dutch and Spanish media, the latter as competition for Barcelona, and on Tuesday there was a big Evening Standard claim of interest. Alderweireld would be going for £40m and De Ligt potentially arriving for £50m.
It’s unlikely Barcelona would go to that price.
De Telegraaf has a story on Wednesday about Ajax signing 24 year old Lisandro Magallan from Boca Juniors, it’s even claimed he could be on the plane to Schiphol this week.
Both Magallan and 18 year old De Ligt are right footed central defenders, and despite the Dutch newspaper saying Ajax’s aim is to pair them together, it’s obvious this looks promising for any clubs wanting to sign the younger defender.
