Bad news for West Ham United. According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Shakhtar manager Paulo Fonseca has chosen to stay at the Ukrainian side instead of taking charge of the Hammers.

The story confirms that Fonseca met West Ham officials on Monday, and had an offer from the London side.

However, he’s chosen to renew his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk, which was expiring this summer, for two more years.

O Jogo claims that the announcement of his stay in Ukraine should be made official in the next few days. He’s expected to earn a salary of €4m per season after tax.

Paulo Fonseca took charge of Shakhtar in the summer of 2016, after leaving Portuguese side Braga.

In these two seasons, he’s had an impressive record of 73 wins in 93 games, which led the club to become champions of the Ukrainian League and cup twice.

Now, if O Jogo are correct, it’s time for West Ham to look for other options.
