Tottenham Hotspur have been working over the past few days to sign Cristian Romero and, according to claims from Italy, have already seen their first bid of €35m fixed fee plus €10m in bonuses turned down by Atalanta.
Over the weekend, Gazzetta dello Sport reported the north London club submitted a second offer worth €50m [€40m plus €10m in easy variables].
Spurs’ desire to sign 23-year-old has convinced the Serie A side to identify Juventus’ Merih Demiral as his potential successor.
This has also been reported by Tuttosport and they add Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have a ‘clear idea’ to sign Demiral, if the Argentina international is sold this summer.
Tottenham’s interest is highlighted and it’s explained that in the ‘last few hours’, the Italian club have ‘said no’ to the English club’s offer of around €50m for the centre-back.
Tuttosport explain that €60m is ‘needed’ for Atalanta to cut ties with the Copa América winner this summer.
That’s higher than the €55m previously claimed.
