From the moment he was announced as Tottenham’s new manager, huge expectations were placed on Antonio Conte.
After all, the Italian arrived with a winner’s reputation, lifting trophies in all three of his last club jobs, and with Spurs going through something of a drought in that department, the appointment made sense.
With José Mourinho failing and Nuno Espírito Santo struggling and quickly dismissed, it’s up to Conte to turn things around at Tottenham, which he appears to be doing.
Yes, there have been a few hiccups and the process will take time, but there is belief he is the right man for the job.
To emphasise all this, the Tottenham manager was awarded the ‘Manager of the Year’ award by Gazzetta dello Sport for his work at Inter last season, which Conte accepted from London, speaking via Zoom.
He said: “Thank you for this prestigious award, but I was in excellent company among the nominations, they all deserved it”.
Conte then touched upon life in the Premier League, which he is experiencing for the first time, and how it was different from Serie A.
He said: “In Italy there is a lot of tactics, all the coaches are very prepared and also for this reason the intensity tends to drop a little. There is a lot of intensity in the Premier League but there is also less tactical attention. Here in England, it’s easier to see one on one in the open field, after the 60th minute anything can happen. Above all, many more spaces to attack”.
Since arriving at Tottenham, Conte is undefeated in the Premier League, winning three and drawing one, while he has lost in the UEFA Europa Conference League, winning the other.
