On Monday, Mundo Deportivo stated Barcelona have their eyes set on signing Tottenham Hotspur’s Giovani Lo Celso.

It was also reported the midfielder ‘perfectly fits’ the profile of the player the La Liga side are looking for, after losing Gavi for the foreseeable future with a serious knee injury.

El Chiringuito journalist Jose Alvarez Haya has backed up Mundo’s claim and adds that the Tottenham player is the ‘favourite option’ for the Catalan club.

He also states the Blaugrana are looking at the possibility of taking the 27-year-old on a loan deal in the winter market. The other options handled by Barca are either to promote Marc Casadó from the academy or cut short Pablo Torre’s loan stay at Girona.

Lo Celso was linked with a move away from Tottenham in the last window but reports then said Ange Postecoglou has convinced him to continue at the club.

However, the midfielder has found it hard to enjoy regular game time as he’s managed 83 minutes from four games.

Despite the Argentina international’s situation at the north London club and Barca’s desire to sign him on loan, a deal is unlikely to take shape in the next window.

That’s according to Cadena Ser’s Carrusel Deportivo, who explain that Spurs ‘will not let’ Lo Celso leave. This would see Barcelona need to look elsewhere in their efforts to replace Gavi for the second half of this season.

If you were to ask us, we would lean more to believing the latter of the two sources, meaning that when taking their latest report into account, Lo Celso should be expected to finish the season at Tottenham.
