Back in the summer we covered lots of articles saying Tottenham Hotspur would be interested in signing Ricardo Pereira from Porto as a replacement for Kyle Walker, who was about to move to Manchester City.

Pereira was returning from a two year loan at Nice, and Porto were afraid they wouldn’t be able to even use him as his €25m release clause seemed pretty affordable for Tottenham or any English club.

Tottenham were said to have made a low offer, which was rejected by Porto, but there was still fear Spurs could return.

That’s when local papers reported the rush for a contract renewal, so Porto would find themselves in a better position in case Tottenham came knocking on their door, even if leaving the approach for the January window.

But things have gone quite cold now, and proof of that is A Bola’s update on Ricardo Pereira’s current situation at the club.

They claim that Porto are still ‘wishing’ for the player’s renewal, this time with no hurry to get it done quickly.

A Bola recalls that Tottenham were once linked to the player, but brings no updates on clubs who would be interested in activating his €25m release clause.

Ricardo has been having a good season for Porto, playing both as a right-back and a right-winger, so it’s quite a surprise there aren’t any major clubs keeping an eye on him lately.

In case Porto succeed in extending his contract, we bet he could be leaving for much more than €25m in the next summer window. But considering the silence over the past few months, it shouldn’t be Tottenham who will end up overpaying.
