Earlier today, we covered Correio da Manhã’s story which detailed investigations on Rio Ave’s match-fixing scandal.
Four players are being accused of having influence on the 2-1 defeat to Feirense in February this year, with one of them being Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Roderick Miranda, who made the move to the Championship side this summer.
Correio da Manhã had the most interesting developments, saying the police has taken the player’s phones to check if there were any trails, although they didn’t have much success.
But other newspapers are covering the case as well, since it has become public in the past few days, and Record managed to interview the Wolves defender’s father about the matter.
Ademir Miranda told Record that his son “is calm”, and will be fighting to prove his innocence.“I spoke to him, he is calm, because he fears nothing. He just doesn’t understand how his name was thrown out in this way, because they are damaging his image.”
“It’s a very serious charge, but he’ll prove he did not do anything wrong, that he’s a good professional and that he plays clean.”
Despite Correio da Manhã’s news about the phones taken, Ademir didn’t know anything about the Wolves player speaking to the Portuguese police: “I’m not a lawyer or an agent, I’m talking like a father.
“He already defends well on the pitch, and will also defend himself from the accusations.”
Roderick Miranda’s father also said the player should release a statement soon.
