Barcelona will be looking to offload a few of their first team players in the summer transfer window and one of those likely to leave the Catalan club is Andre Gomes.
If you thought of Tottenham Hotspur as soon you read Gomes’ name, then you are not in for a shock. The midfielder is once again linked with a move to the north London club, according to today’s Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
They claim that Tottenham are interested in signing Gomes this summer, but now need to ‘specify their offer’ for Portuguese international.
Gomes has made six starts in La Liga, while having only one start to his name in the Champions League this season. Restricted playing time with the Spanish champions has convinced the 24-year-old to make a move away from Barcelona this summer.
Portugal coach Fernando Santos has not included the former Valencia midfielder in his 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup.
Another report from Mundo Deportivo claims Gomes’ failure to make it to Russia is a blow for Barclona as his “price will come down”.
With the player looking for a new club and his price tag being lowered after World Cup snub, Tottenham have an advantage in their efforts in signing Gomes this summer. But whilst the Catalan newspaper says Gomes will ‘most likely’ move to England, we can’t shake the feeling the Spurs links are out of habit rather than based on current information.
