Wout Weghorst to Tottenham Hotspur has emerged as a possibility in recent days, with claims mainly coming from the Dutch media.

Monday’s edition of De Telegraaf reported Spurs ‘want to sit down’ with the player and his camp to discuss a potential move this summer.

Interest from Jose Mourinho’s side was presented as being serious, with it stated they ‘want to recruit’ the 28-year-old to provide support to Harry Kane over the coming season. Such a move was seen as a dream for the player, and the Dutch newspaper said the transfer is ‘very realistic’.

However, it seemed clear Tottenham were working on convincing the player’s camp, which didn’t appear difficult, and hadn’t yet locked horns with VfL Wolfsburg.

That was always where the problems would arise, and Bild now give the Bundesliga club’s stance on the situation. Jörg Schmadtke, the club’s general manager, is quoted as saying: “We don’t deal with speculation!”

Bild then go on to say Wolfsburg aren’t interested in hearing from Tottenham or anyone else, unless they’re prepared to pay at least €35m.

That feels like more than Spurs would want to pay.
