Every now again, there’s a huge drama in the Italian sport media about Lorenzo Insigne’s future. He’s been in repeat tussles with Napoli over salary increases, and that’s the case again now.
Over the past week, the player has been linked with several top clubs in Serie A and also the Premier League. He’s even been linked with Everton, given he played under Rafa Benitez when the Spaniard was in charge at Napoli.
Tottenham have been linked on several occasions, and Saturday’s Corriere dello Sport, the Campania edition, says Spurs are tempted by the chance of getting Insigne on a free transfer next summer.
Inter Milan are linked, and they’re also considering waiting and trying to sign the Italy international on a free agent basis.
If history is anything to judge from, Insigne will end up renewing eventually, unless he has a major clash with president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Getting Insigne out of Naples, and even Italy, would be a big task for Fabio Paratici, but the Tottenham director showed at Juventus that he can pull off impressive free transfers.
It’s worth noting that when Tottenham were linked in June, Italian journalist Ciro Venerato said: “Thirty minutes ago, I had an exchange of messages with Fabio Paratici, now manager of Tottenham. He told me that Insigne will not land in the Premier League.”
