When Tottenham spent just under £19m on Vincent Janssen in the summer as a backup for Harry Kane, hopes were high.

The young Dutch striker was coming off a 32 goal season with AZ Alkmaar, setting the Eredivise alight with his clinical finishing, yet the shift to the Premier League hasn’t been a successful one.

Relied upon a fair bit when Kane was injured, the 22-year-old failed to justify his price tag, and while it’s still early on in his Spurs career, two goals in 24 league appearances isn’t the return Mauricio Pochettino will have been hoping for, even if a lot of those appearances have come from the bench.

With news in Italy that Tottenham could be looking for a new striker, with Sampdoria’s Patrik Schick one of the options, it was only a matter of time before someone somewhere suggested the London club could move on from Janssen in the summer.

It’s Corriere dello Sport who get the ball rolling, explaining the Dutchman could be a target for Lazio in Italy, who are currently looking for a backup for Ciro Immobile.

Filip Djordjevic (0 goals in 15 league appearances) is likely to leave, and Vincent Janssen is being considered as a potential alternative.

Corriere explain that if Tottenham’s valuation of their striker (apparently £11.8m) stays the same, and he ends up on the transfer list, he would be their number one target.

Admittedly, that’s a lot of ifs, and with plenty of alternatives, including Utrecht’s Sébastien Haller, this could just be a big daydream.

Are Spurs ready to give up on Janssen so early? We don’t think so.
