Jean-Kévin Augustin is a 19 year old right footed forward on the books of PSG. He’s been getting chances this season but if PSG bring in a back-up for Edinson Cavani then L’Equipe believe Augustin’s chances would be more limited.
That opens up the possibility of a January exit for the youngster, and Tottenham are named as one of the interested clubs. The French newspaper claim Mauricio Pochettino’s club made an offer for the player over the summer, which was clearly knocked back, and remain keen on the player.
On August 17th, L’Equipe said Tottenham were interested in signing the player that summer window, with him being minded to consider an exit.
That was of course after Tottenham had already signed Vincent Janssen, so the Dutchman’s transfer wouldn’t then make Pochettino’s Augustin interest void.
Borussia Dortmund are also said to be interested but their problem, like Tottenham’s, could be persuading Augustin he’d get chances to shine, because if he’d be in a similar situation to his one at PSG then there’s little point in a move.
PSG would like to keep the youth product, partly driven by wounded pride over losing Kingsley Coman, and so Tottenham interest is ambitious. Not only would they have to convince PSG, but also the player too, with him already at a big club.
Given Janssen’s struggles to impose his game, the disappearance of Georges-Kévin N’Koudou, and the partial failure of Clinton N’Jie before him, Augustin would obviously think twice.
