Arsenal are the Premier League club who have been linked most with Steven N’Zonzi.
The Gunners have routinely been thrown into many stories linking the Sevilla player with an exit and there’s repeatedly felt at least a little something in it.
Estadio Deportivo now reports that Arsenal have pulled out of the race, along with Italian champions Juventus. Both clubs are said to be concentrating on other targets.
Tottenham and Barcelona are ‘still in the bidding’ according to the Seville newspaper, and will be asked for the player’s release clause if they want to complete a transfer this summer.
That clause is €40m and prior to the World Cup it had been thought the midfielder would be available for less than that amount, after an up and down season including some controversies.
N’Zonzi getting a call up to the World Cup, getting some minutes for France, and winning the thing has obviously led Sevilla to think their player is more valuable.
The Spanish club plan talks with the Frenchman but it’s still thought that his preference is to leave the club this summer.
With N’Zonzi being 29 years of age and wanting out, Tottenham may think twice about €40m. It must be noted that the Catalan media aren’t pushing a move to Barcelona strongly at the moment.
It’s an option for Mauricio Pochettino, and one worth considering.
