Former Chelsea coach Christophe Lollichon has labelled Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris ‘Spiderman’ during an interview with the French media. The France international joined Tottenham from Lyon in 2012, and has gone on to be become one of the best stoppers in the Premier League.
Lollichon believes the speed of the Frenchman is a huge benefit because his game is more based on reflexes rather than anticipation and positioning.
“One of his main qualities lies in his reflexes and his game off the line. He is so fast that it becomes phenomenal: it’s incredible, he looks like Spiderman! It is true, on the other hand, that he is more in reaction than in anticipation, in terms of placement and occupation of space. But he also plays on his reflexes and his speed, which allows him to compensate a lot of things,” said the former Chelsea coach.
Since signing for Tottenham in 2012 Lloris has made nearly 150 Premier League appearances for the club. However, there have been recent concerns about Lloris’ future at the club despite being contracted to Tottenham until June 2019. Given any opportunity, Lloris has eased these concerns and is clearly happy.
Lloris has at times been Superman for Tottenham, but given they’ve already got Super Jan, perhaps Spiderman is the better option.
