Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has spoken to the Dutch media about the struggles he’s had since picking up a serious knee injury last year. The Netherlands international is currently on loan with Ajax in order to get back to match fitness.

Speaking to Voetbal International, Krul was asked how he’s dealt with being out of action for the past 12 months. The goalkeeper said it has been difficult not being able to play, but that had to remain positive like teammates who’ve had similar injuries.

“It really sucks. I have deep respect for guys like Kevin Strootman who had more than one cruciate ligament injury. Mentally you’ve got to be hard, but fortunately it seems there is light at the end of the tunnel,” said the Newcastle United owned goalkeeper.

Due to Newcastle United signing Matz Sels early in the last transfer window from Gent, Krul was sent on loan to Ajax to get more opportunities. Krul played just nine games for Newcastle United in the last campaign before his injury on international duty. However, Krul only made his senior competitive debut for Ajax last night after coming through some friendlies in recent weeks.
