Tottenham Hotspur are keen on a move for Atlético Madrid midfielder Thomas Lemar and have already opened negotiations with the Spanish club about a move.
Atlético are keen to move Lemar on this month, with the Frenchman having disappointed since arriving at the club for €72m in the summer of 2018.
The club want to try and recoup the majority of that fee to fund a move for a new striker this summer, with Edinson Cavani and Paco Alcácer at the top of their list.
Arsenal had been named as a potential destination for the French midfielder, but it now seems they will face competition from Tottenham.
Foot Mercato report that they are ‘on the spot’ and ready to make their move, although they cannot afford Atlético’s asking price in this window.
They instead prefer the idea of a loan with an option to buy in the summer and the two clubs are now negotiating a way to get a deal done.
Atlético have agreed to let Lemar go in January, but they need the money now rather than later, and the two clubs are discussing the ‘conditions’ of a possible move.
Lemar, for his part, is not against leaving Spain or joining Tottenham, but it seems there is work to be done before that can happen this month.
