Joe Rodon was the only new centre-back to arrive at Tottenham Hotspur this season after Spurs signed him from Swansea City last October.
Prior to the Welshman’s arrival in north London, José Mourinho’s side were linked with Inter Milan defender Milan Škriniar and Juventus’ Merih Demiral.
Liverpool looked at the Turkey international in the winter market, but couldn’t convince the Old Lady to sanction his sale.
Earlier today, Gazzetta dello Sport explained the Turin club are of the belief they were right to turn down an approach from the Reds for Demiral. These claims were also reported in the player’s country.
Tutto Juve interviewed Fanatik journalist Yakup Çınar and he revealed about the approach made Tottenham for the centre-back.
Çınar discussed Spurs when asked if there are ‘other clubs interested’ in Demiral after Juve turned down €50m plus bid from Liverpool.
“Even before wearing the Juventus jersey, Milan were ready to spend 35 million euros to bring him to Milan but Juventus declined the offer,” Çınar said.
“In addition to this, during this season many top European clubs have sought him including Tottenham, Leicester, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Atletico, but Juventus have always refused to sell him.”
“This summer Real Madrid will knock on Juventus’ door to try to bring him to the Iberian capital. This is not a guess but a very concrete fact.”
The Fanatik journalist is of the belief Demiral’s valuation will further increase after the summer’s European championship.
“In the Premier League there were players of Merih Demiral’s calibre, valued at around €60-70m. Juventus paid him only 18 million and at the moment his market value is €35m, but in my opinion, it is much higher than this figure,” the journalist said.
“I am sure that if he had not been hurt in the match against Roma, his value would have been €100m. However, I think that after the European championships his value will be very close to this latter figure.”
