Following the end of the January transfer window, several of Liverpool’s attempts to sign new centre-backs ended up being revealed by European outlets.

One of them was Juventus’ Merih Demiral, for whom according to reports at the time, the Reds made a ‘monster offer’ of €57m.

The amount was obviously tempting for the Old Lady, who know that any club would hardly get that much money for a player who’s mostly on the bench.

But their decision to keep him was made with an eye on the club’s future, and as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport today, they won’t regret having turned down the Liverpool bid.

The outlet recalls that Juventus have been resisting several attempts, including from the Reds, and their decision to keep him now proves to be right following Demiral’s latest performances for the club.

It’s claimed that he and Matthijs de Ligt are seen as the natural successors of Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci at the Old Lady, and are having the chance to prove it a few times this season.

That means Juventus will keep holding Demiral in the future, or as best described by Gazzetta, ‘Juve has raised the wall, it’s useless to climb’.
