Pape Cheikh to Tottenham Hotspur is something which has very much been pushed by the English media, with the Spanish media then following, sometimes with some bemusement.
That’s until now.
Spain’s Cadena Ser radio publish an article on Monday morning which sounds promising for Tottenham’s transfer business. It’s stated the club have now secured the signing of Davinson Sanchez for £35m, and have moved on to Pape Cheikh.
Whilst that may be an assumption presented as fact by Cadena Ser, it’s what comes next which is likelier to be an update.
Tottenham negotiations to sign the midfielder are recognised within the environment of Celta Vigo, and an offer has already been made. Despite the player having a €30m release clause, it’s explained that any offer over €10m should be good enough to further negotiations.
Pape Cheikh, if the move to Tottenham happens, would receive a contract worth ‘several multiples’ of what he’s currently paid, and sees the transfer with ‘good eyes’.
The 20 year old midfielder has been kept out of recent matches, with there being hints in the Spanish media it could be transfer related, despite denials from Celta Vigo.
Tottenham wouldn’t be signing the youngster to go straight into their first team, and he’d perhaps be some way from it, not being a regular at Celta either.
Spanish radio have a patchier record than even Spanish newspapers when it comes to transfers, but do get the odd scoop and have good connections to clubs.
There’s every chance Celta Vigo would be happy to sell Pape Cheikh to Tottenham to give them some spends before the end of the window, and that could be what’s now pushing the story from the Spanish end.
