Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet is ‘on his way to Tottenham’ on a loan deal that will include an obligation to buy at the end of it.
That’s according to El Periodico, who provide details on the Frenchman’s potential move to London amid reports it is close to being completed.
Reports earlier today made it clear that Lenglet was closing in on a move to Tottenham, who had issued a deadline to the player amid concerns the potential deal could drag on.
El Periodico now say that while the deal is not officially closed, Tottenham are the club showing the most interest in taking the 27-year-old.
A loan deal has been proposed between both clubs that would see Spurs pay a €5m fee up front for this season, while there would be a ‘mandatory purchase option’ included for next summer.
Negotiations between the two clubs have ‘intensified’ in the last few hours, and a definitive agreement is now close to being reached.
Lenglet is keen on the move as it will provide him with an ‘open door’ to the Premier League, where he could find stability and sporting regularity in a World Cup year, two things that are not on offer at the Nou Camp.
Barcelona want Tottenham to take on the entirety of the player’s wages, which we already know is the final hurdle for the negotiations before an agreement can be struck.
