Tottenham Hotspur had scouts watching the Lisbon derby between Benfica and Sporting at the weekend, according to local reports.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claims Spurs had a representative at the game to watch two specific players. Those are Lions stars Marcus Edwards and Pedro Gonçalves.
The outlet starts by making it clear that Tottenham’s interest in the duo isn’t new, as the club watched them ‘again’ and took more notes from their performances.
Speaking of Marcus Edwards, who’s a former Spurs player, it’s recalled that the London side still have 35% of his future sale, and that could result in a discount for his signing.
He had a good exhibition on Sunday, and it’s said he’s ‘never hid’ the desire to get back to England and play in the Premier League again. Right now, he’s protected by a €60m release clause, but the club are interested in raising that to €80m.
Regarding Gonçalves, O Jogo says the negotiation ‘will be more complicated’. Firstly, because his release clause is already worth €80m, and then because there are many more clubs who are interested in his signing.
That’s undoubtedly a lot of money for the duo, and we shall see if Tottenham really go for them.
