Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has revealed a running joke with teammate Son Heung-min that he’s going to injure him a week before the tournament in Qatar kicks off.

Bentancur is likely to be a part of Uruguay’s squad for the World Cup this winter, while Son will likewise be a part of the group travelling with South Korea.

That means the Tottenham teammates are set to face off against each other at some point, having been drawn alongside Portugal and Ghana in Group H.

The two sides will clash in matchday one of that group, in what is likely to be a hotly contested affair as both sides look to start the tournament with a win.

It will be the first time the two nations have faced each other since 2018, when South Korea run out 2-1 winners in a friendly.

Son and Bentancur both started that game but weren’t Tottenham teammates at the time, something that has changed since the Uruguayan’s arrival in January.

And he has revealed that since then they’ve had a running joke about him taking out the South Korea star before they’re due to face off.

“We always mess around a bit, he is a crack as a player and as a person,” he told ESPN.

“I always tell him that a week before I’m going to kick him so he can get to the World Cup half lame, but fine. I am honoured to have him as a partner and he is a great person.”
