On Wednesday Sport Witness covered a feature from Galicia about Tottenham and Pape Cheikh.

Regional newspaper La Voz de Galicia explained how inclined Celta Vigo are to sell Pape Cheikh to the Premier League club.

The young midfielder isn’t a regular for Celta Vigo, which isn’t expected to change this season, and the club have plenty of cover in the 20 year old’s position anyway.

Therefore a relatively big chunk of money, around €10m, would be very welcome at Celta Vigo, and sending Pape Cheikh off to a big Premier League club would also be a source of pride.

Despite all of that, it still feels like Tottenham interest is speculation built on speculation.

In Spain on Thursday, AS present competition from Lyon, who are also keen on the midfielder.

The Spanish newspaper believe Tottenham and Lyon are battling for the player, and now Pape Cheikh has to decide whether he wants the Premier League or Ligue 1.

Lyon have been linked previously and it seems the Tottenham reports have encouraged the French club to do something about that interest. French newspaper L’Equipe also report Lyon interest on Thursday, saying the club are following the midfielder.

Even if the Tottenham interest has been exaggerated to the point of it becoming fabricated, it’s had a real impact. Pape Cheikh is now a name in the transfer rumour mill, and interest is growing.
