Achraf Lazaar to Genoa is back, and it’s back with a bit more promise that a deal could get done in the near future.

The last few times we covered the interest from the Serie A side for the Newcastle United left-back, the articles were just suggestions, whereas now we have details.

Of course, that still doesn’t mean this will definitely happen, but the fact that figures have been talked about suggests some negotiations have taken place, even if it is just the Geordies naming their price.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Morocco international remains Genoa’s number one target to replace the potential departing Diego Laxalt (Atalanta appear to be in the lead here, not Newcastle), and a loan with a view to buy will be the likeliest outcome.

The Italian newspaper explain the clause to make the deal permanent will probably be around the €3.5m mark, which would see Rafael Benitez’s side make their money back and a little bit more on the £2.5m deal that brought him to St James’ Park in the first place.

If that indeed does happen, that’s not bad considering he only made four Championship appearances last season.
