Saturday’s edition of A Bola has a headline reading ‘Tottenham are the latest interested in Herrera’.
That’s Hector Herrera.
Porto’s 28 year old captain has a contract which expires at the end of the season and it’s natural that the midfielder would be receiving interest from around Europe and beyond.
A Bola say Spurs are the latest club to provide competition to AC Milan, Arsenal and others, and then say that’s according to claims from Italy.
So off to Italy we go. The only mention of Tottenham and Herrera recently comes from Calciomercato, but their English version.
On Friday it was stated: ‘AC Milan join Inter and Tottenham in race to sign Porto ace for free’
They went on to say: ‘According to Il Corriere dello Sport, AC Milan are thinking about the Mexican winger as a reinforcement for Gattuso’s team. Herrera is also being monitored by Inter and Tottenham.’
The Italian version of the article, which Calciomercato English are supposed to translate, didn’t mention Tottenham.
We checked the Corriere dello Sport article, they don’t mention Tottenham either.
And yet there are now English language articles (who will have got it from Calciomercato English) saying things like: ‘According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Spurs are the latest club to begin to consider an approach for Herrera as they contemplate their options in the transfer market.’
Tottenham do scout Porto, so interest can’t be ruled out. But this particular story is manufactured and a good example of the mess of the rumour mill.
