Following the initial reports from Portugal claiming Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Benfica defender Morato, even the Italian media are now jumping into this story.

Outlet CalcioMercato.it feature a story with their own information where they ‘confirm’ that Spurs are chasing the centre-back.

The website writes that Tottenham are looking to strengthen their defence in January, and it’s agent Kia Joorabchian who’s ‘personally taking care’ of it.

Spurs have reportedly scouted Morato on ‘more than one occasion’ and now see him as a name on their list of potential winter reinforcements.

An interesting claim in this story is that, even though the defender is protected by Benfica with a €100m release clause, it’s said the Eagles value him at €30m.

Morato isn’t a regular starter in Lisbon, having stayed on the bench for most league games so far, and only had more chances to start when improvised as a left-back. So it makes sense that they won’t push too hard when negotiating his sale.

It seems Tottenham should now try and see whether the Brazilian will actually be an affordable signing.
