Tottenham have initiated contact to try and sign Alessandro Buongiorno from Torino, looking to discover the potential costs of a deal.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who say Tottenham have ‘started initial contacts’ with the Italian side over the 24-year-old defender.
CM explain that this summer is looking likely to be the one in which the defender departs his current club after being one step away from Atalanta last year.
There is currently strong interest from AC Milan and Napoli in the player, but Tottenham are also in the picture and have already opened talks.
They’ll be told that they need €35m if they want to get a deal done, with that the price president Urbano Cairo set in the January transfer window, when he rejected a €25m proposal from Napoli that also included defender Leo Østigård.
Whether Tottenham will pay that isn’t mentioned but their interest could force the two Italian sides to change their plans as competing with a Premier League side would not be easy.
They do have cards to play of their own, but the reality is Tottenham have finances they do not, and they are happy to use them when required.
Indeed, thanks to Fabio Paratici, they’ve been spending big sums on the Italian market for a while and Buongiorno could be the latest to join a growing list of players who’ve arrived from Serie A.
