As unlikely as it may seem, the Spanish media, and even some of the more serious branches of it, insist Tottenham are keen on bringing Gareth Bale back from Real Madrid.
Los Blancos are said to want around €100m for the player, which on its own would surely rule Tottenham out, and Bale’s wages will be way outside the ceiling Daniel Levy wants to keep to, but despite all that the insistence continues.
El Confidencial report that Tottenham, along with Manchester United, have ‘expressed their interest’ in signing Bale this summer.
Real Madrid are keen on a sale as they look to raise the money for an attempt to get Neymar from PSG, and there may be an element of hope in the claims, which is feeding the Tottenham part of it anyway.
Even for Manchester United, Bale can’t be the priority for Jose Mourinho, despite the manager’s open admission that he’s a fan of the player.
Bale has scored 11 goals this season and made three assists and whilst that’s certainly not a terrible return, it doesn’t really back up a €100m fee for the 28 year old.
Even if that figure came down to around €70m it’s still an awful lot for Tottenham and there’s little prospect of a good sell-on return in the future.
