After spending four years at Juventus getting the first-team football he was unable to get at Manchester United, it’s understandable to see the Italian press somewhat concerned at the Paul Pogba situation.
Helping the Serie A leaders win the league four times on the trot, the 25-year-old is highly regarded back in Turin, and Gazzetta dello Sport on Thursday seem to think that it’s a case of either the Frenchman leaving or José Mourinho walking out in the summer.
Along the way, the Italian newspaper also have a slight dig at the English press, making it clear they’re not exactly helping ‘extinguish the fire’ propagating at Old Trafford, and present the recent emerging stories regarding the pair’s fractured relationship with the caveat “provided they are true”.
On top of all this, Gazzetta kindly bless us with one of their percentage wheel diagrams, estimating Pogba’s chances of staying at Manchester United at around 50%, with a move to Paris Saint-Germain given 30% and “other clubs” the final 20%.
While we can just about go along with the idea that there’s a 50/50 chance the France international leaves, the rumours sending him to Paris Saint-Germain simply aren’t viable, not in a year when the Ligue 1 side have to pay Monaco £150m+ for Kylian Mbappé once his loan finishes.
Of course, Pogba saying he’d like to play with Neymar one day really hasn’t helped.
To us, this seems like an amalgamation of stories going around, thrown together for the benefit of excitable Juventus readers.
If this continues, however, this summer should be interesting.
For us, that is, because the crazier things get, the more we have to write about.
For Manchester United fans, however, our guess they’ll want this to disappear as quickly as it appeared in the first place.
