Interviews with Celtic’s Dedryck Boyata are popping up all around the Belgium media and on Thursday DH have another chat with the defender.
Boyata has been called up by Roberto Martinez to the current Belgium squad, which gives a reasonable hope of the player going to the World Cup.
However, 5 players will be shed from the current 28 when it comes to Martinez making his final call for Russia, and Celtic’s Boyata is determined to do all he can to make sure he’s on the plane.
Belgian newspaper DH asked Boyata if it’s a concern for him that he’s playing in a ‘smaller league’ like the Scottish Premiership as opposed to the Premier League.
The Celtic defender doesn’t seem to think so: “The championship has a lot of similarities with the Premier League. I can tell you that I am tired after every game. It’s not like I’m sitting in a chair with a cigarette. Training with the Devils is more intensive. It is logical considering the quality. After that, it’s the tempo I want to play every weekend.”
DH then asked Boyata what his future plans are, pointing out he only has a season left on his contract at Celtic Park, but again Boyata seems quite content where he is: “We’re talking with Celtic for now, we’ll see what happens next, I’m in no hurry.”
Given every chance to hint at a possible Celtic departure, Boyata hasn’t taken it.
